Oregon Inlet joins the Pamlico Sound with the Atlantic Ocean & separates Bodie Island from Pea Island, which are connected by a 2.5 mile bridge (NC HWY 12, Herbert C. Bonner, built 1963)that spans the inlet. The bridge is to be replaced sometime in the future.
