Energy Minister Franklin Khan is defending government's decision to stop the sale of regular fuel, saying it was no longer cost-effective. Responding to an Urgent Question in the Senate on Tuesday, Minister Khan said there were only 8,000 to 10,000 barrels of regular fuel sold per month, which became difficult to source on the international market. Describing it as a "bitter pill to swallow" Minister Khan says he is cognizant of the consequence for Trinidad fishermen who depended on the heavily subsidized fuel, however, he claimed fishermen in Tobago have been using Super for the past 5 to 6 years.
