“Ouch!” is often the reaction we have when we get a paper cut or we’re burnt. And it can just pass, or we can keep thinking and brooding about it - a small little cut, and we notice it: Every. Single. Time. Pain is actually inevitable. In life, it keeps happening - be it with physical or emotional aspects. But, as Swamini Supriyananda advises, the amount of suffering associated with that pain is completely our choice. ► Suffering depends not on the factual happenings, but on the texture of each one’s mind. So the next time you break a leg or somebody says something to you in the heat of anger, understand that rethinking, revisiting and holding on to it is not the way to go. Instead, just let it go. You will certainly have felt the pain of that event, but without any suffering. In fact, when you brood over it, it becomes suffering, and the longer you draw out the process, you elongate your suffering.
