ANDREW STACHIW + BRIAN VAN SLYKE Corporations Cause the Problems, Cooperatives Create the Solutions (With Brian Van Slyke 06F) Major corporations have gutted our economy and communities; cooperatives are the tools we can use to reimagine our economy as well as rebuild and strengthen our communities. Andrew Stachiw is a Hampshire alum (06F) whose interest and experience in education, curriculum, and cooperative movements was catalyzed during his time at Hampshire. Andrew has extensive experience designing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans, and has created and designed workshops and conferences for a variety of issues, ranging from educational resources to social justice and social change movements. Andrew is a member of the worker-owned cooperative The Toolbox for Education and Social Action (TESA) toolboxfored.org, which designs participatory educational resources for social and economic change. Brian Van Slyke is a Hampshire College alum (06F) whose adventures in the popular education and cooperative economics movements began in 2005 when he founded a record label that soon became a worker collective. That experience cemented his dedication to democratizing education for democratizing our workplaces, economy, and society. Since then, Brian has designed workshops, curricula, board games, and other educational resources on topics ranging from people's history to co-ops and social change movements. Brian is a member of the worker-owned cooperative The Toolbox for Education and Social Action (TESA) toolboxfored.org, which designs participatory educational resources for social and economic change. http://www.hampshire.edu/ About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
