(19 Nov 2018) Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc on bilateral cooperation on Monday during his two-day visit to Hanoi. After an official welcome ceremony at the presidential palace, Medvedev and Phuc had an hour-long meeting to discuss topics including trade, investment, industry and energy. Russia is among Vietnam's top export markets. After the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement came into effect in October 2016, trade between Vietnam and Russia has increased by 30 percent annually. In 2017, two-way trade reached 3.55 billion US dollars and the two countries' leaders expect the trade to increase to 10 billion US dollars by 2020. Russia currently invests in Vietnam with over a hundred major projects, many in oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Medvedev is also scheduled to meet with Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on Friday.
