Cold Weather Supplies A Hot Item

It's noticeably cooler outside and that means cold weather supplies are hot-ticket items. At one North Asheville Ace Hardware doors are opening for customer after customer. Store manager Leslie Black said, "today they're thinking, 'I don't want to have to turn the furnace on, what can we do to get through the night?'" That means cold weather heating supplies like space heaters are flying off store shelves, and fire logs are flying off the showroom floor.But that's not all you need to stay warm. Weather stripping supplies are another popular item to keep the cold air at bay. "Correct, you want to keep the draft out," Black said. The home experts here say now is the time to prepare before temperatures really drop. "A lot of your foam insulators require that you don't apply them below a certain temperature."There's another factor to consider that's equally important as staying warm, safety. Black says check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. "You want to make sure you have a unit that has a back up battery," in case you lose power, according to Black. Yet this tip might be the most important. Said Black, "space heaters, don't leave them unattended.
