Ashland Train Day was yesterday, so I headed up to Ashland around 10:00. This happened to be the first Ashland Train Day since 2013 where it didn't rain! Had a fun time railfanning and hanging out with (this list includes, but is not limited to) VCUrailfan15, Virginia Railfan Productions, Anthony's Trains, George's Railfanning, Seaboard Coast Line Productions, William Crew, Class J Video Productions, Conrail4129, VA Mainline, EngineerPat5290, Rivanna Railfan, Milepost 99 Rail Productions, Railfanning Jonah, avasic1995, Railfan Thomas, P42 Amtrak Railfan, and more. I stayed between 10 and 4 and got some good catches. Enjoy the video! Train #1: Amtrak P194 carefully pulls into the station. The engineer also gave a jingle bells hornshow while leaving. After departing, they had to stop to flag down the crossing due to a crossing malfunction by North Ashland. This would be the norm for most of the day. 1. P42DC #179 (9:13) Next we get a look at some model trains. Trains #2 and 3 (10:15): CSX Q438 and Amtrak P089 meet in Ashland. Sorry for filming too early, Q438 came up much slower than I anticipated. Of course, it and P089 had to stop to protect the crossing. Sorry if there was sunlight in the way, William, Caleb, and I were initially going to film on the other side, but after hearing that P089 had a private car and which track it would be on, we relocated to avoid the risk of the private car being blocked. After the trains passed, Caleb pulled a Millenniumforce, very similar to what I did when he visited Ashland in September. CSX Q438 1. ES40DC #5361 2. ET44AH #3343 Amtrak P089 1. P42DC #189 Train #4 (26:18): CSX Q301 sneaks through the horde of people that came to Ashland today. It's usually easy to get clear shots in Ashland, but not with this huge ass crowd. 1. CSX ES44AH 3132 2. CSX AC4400CW #442 Train #5 (32:03): Amtrak Carolinian #79 glides through the middle of the Train Day festivities with a female engineer at the controls. 1. P42DC #13 (35:18): Next we get a look at some vintage cars being moved to the parking lot. Train #6 (36:27): CSX Q415 makes it way through with the usual RF&P power set. Me, Daniel, Raleigh, Caleb, Garret, George, Anthony, and some of the other members of the gang were blocking the street for this shot (that's a Family Guy reference). Halfway through, the quality changes a bit. I cut filming with my main camera and I recorded the rest of the train with my phone (I still caught the whole train), as my camera had only 1 power bar left. 1. ES44AH #3233 2. AC4400CW #592 Train #7 (43:56): I was in the Visitor's Center charging my camera and when I came out, I saw Amtrak Silver Star #92 approaching. I know all trains were going slower, but this train was only going around 4 mph. It looked as though it was going to stop at the station. 1. P42 #197 (47:44): More clips of the model trains. Train #8 (48:16): Amtrak Carolinian #80 goes by Ashland. Sorry about the sunlight, I didn't expect it. 1. Amtrak P42 #160 Train #9 (50:00): By now, the crossing was repaired. My last train of the day is my best catch along with P089 with the Pullman car. CSX D794 passes by with a sole GP38-2 and a shave and haircut hornshow. I was surprised to see D794 running, as I thought it was a weekday only train. It was interesting to see it with one engine since it always has two. This also marks my first time to catch CSX 2788 leading, as I mentioned before, I caught it trailing/sitting many other trains, including Ashland Train Day 2012 when it was in YN2. Six years later.... 1. CSX GP38-2 #2788
