(17 Nov 2018) Greeks on Saturday marked the 45th anniversary of the crushing of a 1973 student uprising against the military junta that ruled the country from 1967-74. Each year Greeks commemorate the event by placing flowers at the old gate of the Polytechnic University, which was crushed by a tank during the brutal suppression of the uprising. Student Stelio's Kosopoulos compared the dictatorship back then with the harsh economic environment faced by Greeks today. The day is also marked by a march to the US embassy.
