忠信的基督徒一直意识到圣经历史演进的重要性，特别是涉及到人类陷入罪中和上帝恩典救赎工作的方面。圣经神学学科的兴起是一种负责任的研究这种演进的手段与方式。与系统神学相似，圣经神学组织整合神学理念，从而增进我们对圣经的理解和认识。不过，系统神学组织根据主题来整合它的神学理念，而圣经神学按历史时段或时代来组织它的结论。如果能够合理的使用，圣经神学是一个有能力帮助我们解释和应用圣经的有效工具。
