Within the Belly of the Beast Vaeira - January 18, 2012 If we could peek with objective eyes into the throes of despair what would it look like? Sadly too many of us sure know how bleak and helpless darkness feels when we are in its clutches. And of course, the strong emotions of anxiety blind and overwhelm us from seeing things clearly. They paralyze us and don't allow us to find direction. But what does suffering look like to an objective observer? What could we learn from hearing the messages that come from deep within the abyss? Please join Rabbi Jacobson for a groundbreaking journey into the... belly of the beast (no need to panic; we promise that it will be a very safe and nurturing experience). We will travel into the depths of decadence and oppression (the Egyptian horror in this week's Torah portion), and discover why we read this narrative in such detail -- how it teaches us the deepest lessons in life about darkness, despair, senseless suffering, fear and insecurity (the list goes on), and above all -- how to not merely survive these challenges, but thrive in the process. Learn life's most precious formula: that which doesn't kill us makes us forever stronger.
