(15 Nov 2018) British Prime Minister Theresa May has once again ruled out any prospect of a second referendum on Britain leaving the European Union while she remains in office.
Defiant in the face of mounting criticism on Thursday, May has continued to insist that the deal her government struck with the European Union was the right one.
"I think actually, across the House of Commons, most members of Parliament recognise that they gave a vote to the British people and the British people voted and it's up to us to deliver on that vote and not have a second referendum," May told journalists in London on Wednesday afternoon.
Two Cabinet ministers have resigned since the government backed the deal announced on Tuesday.
An increasing number of lawmakers from May's Conservative Party are calling for a no-confidence vote on the prime minister.
Britain's formal exit is set for 29 March, so that would leave little time to seek an alternative.
