Hi. My name is Nancy Deihl, I'm a fashion historian and the Director of the Graduate Program in Costume Studies at NYU. In my work, I look at the history of fashion in the context of what's going on in the world. My area of specialty is the history of fashion and textiles from 1850 to the present. And in my work, I try to look at fashion through the context of society. Brands have become really important, and they really drive the way people decide what to buy, how to dress, and how they want to present themselves to the world. For brands like Chanel, Gucci, and Dior, are known for desirable clothes, jewelry, and accessories. Many people don't know about the heritage and history of these illustrious names. So now I want to talk to you a little bit about these brands.
