Maui. 2009. New Years Webcast. Ram Dass said it took him 77 years to become content. He asks us if we are content. Are we content with our finances, our health, etc.? He is content, even with his pain and limited use of his body. He is content with the world as it is. At a recent retreat, they did a walking meditation and he couldn't do it, because he was in a wheelchair and he was jealous. So he became content with his jealousy. He became content with his thoughts. When he was in the hospital, he saw the doctors as completely identified with their bodies. So he was a 77 year old man with a broken hip. That's who he is. But he would dispute that. Because we are also God. The Soul feels contentment. Contentment is beyond polarities of happiness and sadness. He is content with his hip and his body.
