I fired up the stove late at night to fix some pasta and was surprised to hear a faint "squeaking" noise along with the usual sound of things expanding as the temperature increased. This actually went on for about five minutes before I realized there was a video camera kicking around on the kitchen table. I made this video because I could. :-) Note how the HDR-PJ200 Handycam picks up some of the (fairly intense) infrared light being emitted from the burner. The stove's a mess and I make no apologies for it. I live in my house, instead of just looking at it. There will be some more "real" videos soon. I've been busy with other things. In addition to finding it slightly amusing, I've long wondered about the origin of the term "burner". I suspect it was named for the obvious result of touching one while it is in operation.
