As salaam alaikum! Today I want to talk about something very very important. I've tried to film this topic several times but the issue/struggle of identity is such a hard topic to talk about because of how complex it is and how many issues surround this one struggle. In the video, I did try my best and address cultural expectations and traditional gender roles that people try and enforce on new members and how that affects our struggle with identity. I also include our history as converts of islam and the struggle of co-existing with other faiths, having non-muslim families and the lack of support and sympathy from the muslim community regarding that struggle.
