Driving the Built Environment to Higher Performance with Energy Efficient Technologies and Innovation Buildings worldwide use 40% of our energy, but why is that percentage not decreasing faster with all that the industry knows? Existing buildings are a huge opportunity, but aren’t living up to their potential of 30% or more in energy savings. Measuring building performance can be a key principle of any design process for new and existing buildings, but owners, operators, and occupants must also be invested in the outcomes. How is building performance currently achieved and implemented by high performers? How do voluntary benchmarking and mandatory disclosure policies pair with smart building systems, data analytics energy retrofits, operational procedures, and financing come together to help buildings collectively do their part to mitigate climate change, and can technology help?
