Probably most well known from The Clancy Brothers (and the Late Tommy Makem). The melody to this song may be recognized as the same as the "Streets of Laredo". Patrick Donnelly, who took the name Phelim Brady, was known as "The Bard of Armagh" and lived from 1650-1716. (I have my doubts on this as "four score and three years would put the bard at age 83 years old in my understanding yet Patrick died at 66 - hmmm) I believe this song was written in the mid 1800's but I have found conflicting reports. If any one can lead me to more accurate dates, I would be most appreciative. A "Bard" was known as a story teller or singer of songs. Well, With St. Patrick's day and many othe issues going on, I have been busier than a one-legged man in an Irish step dancing contest. Sorry for not communicationg with all my friends, I promise, I will catch up soon! Best regards to all, John
