Thalia Anagnos has served on the faculty at San Jose State University for 30 years and was the 2011-2012 SJSU Outstanding Professor. Her greatest love is earthquake engineering, but she has taught classes on many topics ranging from structural analysis to technical writing. Her current research focuses on identifying older concrete buildings that have the potential to collapse in future earthquakes. She is also helping to develop a museum exhibit on the engineering of the Golden Gate Bridge. Professor Anagnos holds a doctorate and a master's degree in civil engineering from Stanford University. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
