This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Kevin Pham came together with a group of students to really understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They wanted to go past the sound bytes and polarizing statements they heard day after day. To truly understand the conflict--and to understand how to resolve it-- they went to the region and found out for themselves. Now hundreds of others follow in their footsteps and are creating the roots of real conflict resolution.

Kevin Pham, 26, is the alumni coordinator for the "Olive Tree Initiative," a university-based organization that provides students, faculty and community participants with the education, leadership training and experiences needed to better understand, negotiate and resolve conflicts. He received his B.A. in political science at the University of California, Irvine in 2010, and his M.Sc. in conflict resolution and governance at the University of Amsterdam as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in 2011. He just started a Ph.D. program in political science at the University of California, Riverside and hopes to be a professor. He was born and raised in San Jose, California where his parents settled after coming to the U.S. as Vietnamese refugees.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
