Thomas Breideband is an Internet Researcher and a PhD candidate in English and American Studies at Georgia State University (USA) and Johannes Gutenberg-University (Germany). His research lies at the intersection of new media, civic engagement, and political communication. He is a member of the Association of Internet Researchers, the National Communication Association, and SAMLA. His work has been published in various journals such as Technoculture. Since 2014, he holds an Innovation Fellowship position at Georgia State University.

In his TEDx Talk he uses gardening as a metaphor not only to highlight the volatile nature of Twitter but to explain how the actions of Twitter users may have profound effects on the direction and spread of hashtag based discourses.
