Minibus-sized boxes are hoisted onto the fourth floor of Rice University's Brockman Hall for Physics during a delicate operation that involved lifting more than 40 tons of gear up to the top floor. The air-handling units will pre-condition air for the building, which will require an ultra-clean, ultra-stable environment for the sensitive equipment within. The units will save the university up to $65,000 a year in energy costs. The building will be one of the nation's top physics research facilities when it opens next year.
