Purdue Memorial Union's Union Commons complex recently celebrated its first anniversary of operation. The $7 million complex on the ground floor of the student union converted a cafeteria concept from the early 1980s into an urban streetscape of individual restaurants. The diverse menus include Asian, Mexican, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines with specialty shops featuring frozen drinks, coffee, breakfast cereal and convenience foods. The award-winning design was crafted with extensive student, input but is open to the public and designed to appeal to broad cross sections of the Purdue and local community. http://news.uns.purdue.edu/x/2008b/081222M-GoldbergCommons.html
