United Nations, New York, 13 November 2009 - The Secretary-General intends to join this fast over the weekend. The call for a fast by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is meant to show solidarity with the more than one billion people who live in chronic hunger. And as you know the Secretary-General delivers a speech at the opening of the World Summit on Food Security, Monday. He is expected to say that it is unacceptable that more than one billion people are hungry when the world has more than enough food.
