Lara was diagnosed in June 2012. After two years of fighting, she passed on 8/13/14. Her final wishes were to have her remains taken to Hawaii, to publish her poetry and her essays, and to have her work read by friends in memorial. 

Over the last two years, Lara's failing health required ever greater care. I ultimately chose to withdraw from graduate school and quit my job in order to provide care for her full time. As a result, our savings have been severely depleted and I could use some financial assistance in order to fulfill Lara's dying wishes.

As most of you know, Lara was a brilliant writer and an amazing human being. As evidenced by the last two weeks, or "Fortnight of the Living Facebook" as I have dubbed it, her far too brief life indelibly touched many. Please help me lay my wife to rest and support her life's work.

In the coming weeks, my family and I will be organizing a memorial service, to be held sometime mid September. The event will draw heavily upon our vast pool of talented friends, and will include readings of her work by selected poets. More information about the memorial will be forthcoming.
