I believe passionately in the power of fiction and poetry to awaken our minds to the commonality of human experience – and by doing so, to help us make choices that shape a better world.

University is a place where things can "get started," when students grapple with new and ideas concepts, when they engage in service learning, when they study abroad, or when they volunteer on and off campus.

Students can be changed profoundly by these experiences, which can lead them to change the world - in ways they had never before considered.

Dr. Ramona Lumpkin is the President and Vice-Chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent University. Throughout her career, Dr. Lumpkin has been actively engaged in women's issues and literature, and in promoting the role of women in higher education.

In 2014, Dr. Lumpkin was invested into the Order of Canada as a Member, in recognition of her leadership in post-secondary education and her promotion of community-based learning initiatives.
