Christchurch-based AMI Insurance is in talks with the Government to prevent it going bust in the wake of the Christchurch quakes.

Minister of Finance Bill English says the company's $1 billion in capital and cover has been wiped out, and without raising extra money, could be unable to pay out new claims.
