EU Foreign Affairs ministers meet in Stockholm for a two days informal Council to discuss the Middle East peace process, the situation in Iran, EU missions in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the role of the EU as a global actor. In a press conference, Commissioner in charge of External relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, said that the European Union supports the American administration proposals to freeze the settlements and to establish a moratoria, in the Middle East. In relation with Syria, she was in favor of signing a Association Agreement because it does not only set a framework for cooperation, but it also contains a number of obligations. On Afghanistan, she acknowledged that the situation is difficult, but added that it is necessary to go on.
