Then the Nazis came, claiming the Sudeten Land, with its large German population, as part of the Third Reich. The film HABERMANN, which was produced in German and Czech language versions, is based on real-life events.After the War, the Czechs expelled the Sudeten Germans. Up to three million people had to leave their homes. Many were killed. KINO speaks with director Jurai Herz and his actors on the first German-Czech-Austrian co-production to look at this dark chapter in European history. BAIKONUR - Love on the Kazakhstan SteppesBaikonur is a huge launch pad in the middle of the barren steppes of Kazakhstan. It was here that cosmonaut Juri Gagarin went into orbit, the first man to go to outer space. And it's here that director Veit Helmer has set his film, BAIKONUR. It's a love story between a rich "Space Tourist" and a Kazakh farmer boy.French super model Marie de Villepin plays the tourist and Russian actor Alexander Asochakov the boy. Helmer is famous for finding strange, obscure locations for his films. This time it's a Kazakh village made of space junk. KINO made the trek to visit Veit Helmer on set.
