- Connecting to Allah and disconnecting with all others
- Hajj is a spiritual retreat in which you focus on your true identity as a servant of Allah
- In Salaat we begin with Takbir and end with Salaam. We begin by connecting to Allah and end by reconnecting to the people around us
- Hajj is wajib on those who can afford it i.e. those who are not in debt
- Imam Ali has said, "Contentment is the foundation of affluence"
- Islam says to live debt-free.
- We incur significant expenses that we may not be able to pay for immediately (e.g. education, marriage etc). But we can plan for these future expenses by using the resources we presently have (e.g. Registered Savings Plans)
- One of the last things we do in Hajj is Qorbani (Sacrifice). It is a major issue. It is interesting that in Namaaz, we do three salaams. In Mina while sacrificing, the reccomendation is to divide it into three portions.
- Western culture says that you can be debt. Islam says to live in Ghina, debt free. Going to school is expensive as well (e.x. OSAP). Then, people want to get married. But they have debt. Marriage is delayed. Couples come into a marriage with schoold debts. We cannot say to not go to school. Use the resources known that we have, such as RESP; We have to change our mindset.
- "Hajj is a spiritual retreat. It is the ultimate experience for connecting with Allah (S.W.T), and disconnecting from everything else."
- "In today's society, it isn't matter of need, it is a matter of greed."
- "Contentment is the foundation of afluence." - Imam Ali.
