I made this attachment for my tail stock in preparation for reaming the chamber for a 300 Blackout barrel which I'm making from a barrel blank. The material cost about $1 from a local metal supplier here in Tacoma. It's mild steel. The material is thinner than I wanted around the bottom, but will work for now (my mistake, not sure what happened). The fit is close, so that helps. I cut the basic shape using my oxy-acetylene torch, then ground it to final shape on my bench grinder. I then drilled the hole with a small bit, then a 1/2" bit both on my drill press. Then, I mounted the work piece in the 4-jaw chuck on the lathe and bored it to size. It fits onto the tail stock spindle very nicely. I then drilled and threaded two holes to 1/4-20. The dial indicator is held in place by a mag base.
