South African artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, whose career started by pure luck. She was working as a junior secretary at Gallo Recording Company, and was constantly slipping out to the studio due to her love of pop music. On one such occasion chaos reigned as Dan Hill and the musicians in studio were frantically searching for the singer who was supposed to record a song with the band, but everyone had forgotten to arrange this with her. Dan Hill then asked June to stand in so that they could at least rehearse, and the rest is history, as they say. Dan Hill immediately married June to the song, “Chapel of Love”, and it became a huge hit for her in 1964. She subsequently started singing in a night club in Benoni, and by 1965 was the resident singer with the Archie Silansky Band in Johannesburg. She had 2 South African Top 20 hits, with "For You Babe" reaching #8 in 1966, and "Just Like A Man" reaching #16 in 1967. In later years she moved to the USA. This song is off June’s first album “The Nearness Of June”, released in 1964. It's a cover of a song written by Hoagy Carmichael and Sidney Arodin in 1930, and recorded by many artists over the years.
