The Telegraph's Jonathan Pearlman joins a Royal Australian Air Force flight hunting in the Indian Ocean for signs of the missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 

As the hunt for Malaysia Airlines MH370 continues, a Lockheed P-3 Orion from the Royal Australian Air Force is just one of many aircaft and ships scouring a remote area of the Indian Ocean. 
Flight MH370 went missing in the early hours of 8 March, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. No physical evidence of the aircaft has been located. The battery aircraft's black box recorder has only enough battery power to last a few days more, after which its locator beacon will cease to send out a signal. 
The Telegraph's Jonathan Pearlman joined the crew of the P-3 Orion as they embarked upon a gruelling mission from Perth, with a flight time of four hours before they even reach their designated search zone. 
After performing four circuits or 'laps', each more than 120 miles long, to search a vast expanse of water, the aircaft had enought fuel for two final laps. The first turned up nothing, but on the final lap of the day an object was sited. 
"The navigator, who was sitting just behind the cockpit, yelled out 'mark, mark, mark! Object in the water,'" says Jonathan Pearlman. 
"The crew lept into action. This was the first, and it turned out the only sighting on this mission." 
A navigator onboard the aircraft later described the object as a small, white square. No further information has been released to suggest whether the object was indeed part of the missing Boeing 777. 
"Shortly the after this search was completed, a Chinese ship detected a possible pulse from the black box. This raised some hope that this long, frantic search might finally be coming to an end," says Pearlman.
