http://www.africa-24.com Cathkin Estate - Spanning over 100ha, on the warm north-facing slopes of the Champagne valley, lies the largest privately owned wilderness area in the Central Drakensberg, Cathkin Estates conservation and wildlife sanctuary. Home to many indigenous species of fauna and flora, most notably the endangered Oribi antelope, Cathkin Estates is fully committed to conservation. The small Oribi antelope enjoy the safety of the fully fenced park along with Eland, Blesbok, Zebra and wildebeest to name a few. The fence, running 16km around the sanctuary, with the 2,4 metre high electrified safety barrier, ensure peace of mind for both man and beast privileged enough to co-exist in this little Eden. The development was the vision and brainchild of a local family who, having lived in the valley for over a century, and hold the berg dear to their hearts. Their dream was to create an environment where the natural beauty of the land could be protected and enjoyed by generations of families to come. Cathkin Estates is a beautiful manifestation of this magnificent dream.
