About Object Stories: The Object Stories project displays personal perspectives and their related physical objects on a single theme. The perspectives combine audio and still images into video interviews which are installed on iPads next to their corresponding objects in the Object Stories gallery. By honoring and collecting these perspectives, the project aims to be a platform for community voice and make the Museum more reflective of the community. http://portlandartmuseum.org/objectst.... About the Exhibition: Sensing Nature on view October 21st, 2015 through January 18th, 2016 Seeing is one way to enjoy an aesthetic experience of the physical world. By default, art museums privilege sight. This Object Stories exhibition brings attention to this inequity by privileging the senses of touch and hearing. Here, you can touch the 3d printed tactile maps describing walks regularly taken by members of Portland’s blind and low vision community, and listen to the Portland soundscapes captured by a local acoustic ecologist and sensory urbanist. Sensing Nature was produced in response to Seeing Nature: Landscape Masterworks from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection, with the support of PCC Disability Services and the PCC MakerSpace.
