Metro North Railroad GP8 543 makes a little noise as it comes north through Tarrytown Station and heads for Croton with 6 M7's in tow, most likely coming back from Arch Street Yard in Queens.  543 was originally a GP7 built for the New York Central in 1953 as engine 5770.  Its number remained 5770 during the Penn Central era and was rebuilt by Rock Island's Silvis Shops in 1978, while under Conrail. It was then renumbered as 5432, and was reclassified as a GP8.  When Metro North took over, they gave it its current number, 543.  In case you are wondering, 543 has always been a high-hood, long-hood forward engine.
