In Remission In January 2012, I once again found myself having to fight off throat cancer. Honestly, during the 20 years since surviving stage IV cancer the first time, I always had just assumed it was finished. Over. A couple of times this year people asked me if the cancer had been in remission. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I had never thought about the fact that the cancer had been there all these years. Around the same time this year, I read some medical journals that basically said after having cancer it's always there. If you're lucky, it goes into remission.
