The David Letterman Show began its 71st episode on September 29, 1980, with the host's perspective as he entered the studio, was bombarded with last-minute instructions from the staff, and conducted an interview with "Chuck the Human Weasel."

Late Night then revisited the concept on its February 15, 1982, episode (#9), here interviewing "Bert the Human Caboose," portrayed by Calvert DeForest, before his persona as Larry "Bud" Melman" had been established.
