The Crew Wild Run - BMW R1200GS Adventure Test (January Summit Reward)

The January Summit is over and the reward for it was a new BMW bike called R1200GS Adventure. It is available for Street spec, Dirt spec and Raid spec, just like the KTM 450 EXC. I have tested the new bike in every spec to see how competitive it is. Here you can see the results.

In both Street spec and Dirt spec the BMW is clearly worse than the KTM. It does reach similar times as the best cars in those specs though.

In my Street spec test I did a 1:17 with the KTM and a 1:22 with both the BMW and the Skyline.

In my Dirt spec test I did a 2:51 with the KTM and a 2:56 with the BMW, which is similar to the RT-35 and better than the Skyline.

In both of those specs the BMW suffers from a very bad turn rate, so you just have to slow down too much to get around the corners. And this is coming from somebody who is using a controller with full steering.

In Raid spec it is a different story though. The BMW is able to beat the KTM here. However, it can be very hard to manage a clean run with it. It loses control at small bumps very easily. The KTM is a lot more stable and consistent.

In my test I hit a 2:01 and a few 2:03s with the BMW but I also had to restart very often because of losing control. With the KTM I could finish a lot of my runs but I never reached a better time than 2:05.

Some of the Raid spec PvP tracks like Canyon Run and The Navajo Trail don't have many small bumps though, so on these tracks the BMW might be consistent enough to be a very good choice.
