With high levels of poverty in Southern Africa, communicable diseases are a serious concern for social and human development in the region. The SADC region accounts for one-third of all people living with HIV and AIDS worldwide; eight SADC member States are among those countries with the highest rates of tuberculosis; and 75 per cent of the SADC population is at risk of contracting malaria. To share insights on the progress the continent is making in curbing communicable diseases CNBC Africa is  joined by Dr Francis Ohanyido, Senior Advisor and National Pneumonia Coordinator USAID/TSHIP in Abuja; Dr Marlin Mckay, Health Practitioner in Johannesburg and Dr Ouma Oluga, Secretary-General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists & Dentist Union in Nairobi.
