2018 Service Awards Angie Bonavita, RN Celebrating 30 years “At the time I was hired, I was a nursing assistant. That was back in 1987. And I remember them asking me what unit I wanted to work on, like, do you have a choice of where you want to go. And I’m like, ‘No, just put me anywhere.’ Then they said, ‘You’re going to go to hematology/oncology unit.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, no, maybe anywhere but there.’ But then, once I got there, I realized that that’s where I was supposed to be. It was a great fit for me, great people that I work with, great mentors. It was good. I’ve very proud that I’ve been here at Children’s for 30 years. I’m very proud of the work that I’ve done here I always share with my friends how fortunate we are in Cincinnati to have children’s hospital so close to us. When I first started, I had really short hair. It was curly. And then it grew longer, it was always curly. So this is straight for me, this is totally different. Um, I remember I had a patient that was from Georgia, and she would say to me, ‘Miss Angie, you have the biggest hair.’ Because I would tease it as big as I could get it, because that was the style then. Obviously, not so much now.”
