Appreciating differences, treasuring what we've got, and seeing hopes beyond the unknown--these beautiful qualities are never easily learnt through telling. Julian Zhu, training director of Dialogue in the Dark, will share stories from his own life, from his teammates, as well as from clients, revealing the potential of every human being that we learn better and faster through encounter.

Born with congenital eye disease and brought up in China with limited resources through all his school years, Julian supplemented his own education with untraditional means such as learning English through guessing and secretly camping with fellow boys on the school's campus during a summer vacation. After 12 years of basic education, he challenged himself with trainings and jobs in America, Beijing, Guangdong, Indonesia and Europe, and most recently Hong Kong. He reads and writes on computer, and travels alone by a white cane and fine-tuned communication with fellow passengers. Now, thanks to the platform of Dialogue in the Dark, everyday he shares with his fellow visually impaired colleagues how to overcome fear and stress, and together, creates dark experiences to enable more sighted people of personal breaks.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
