http://www.africa-24.com Wilgemond is situated on the northern slopes of the Swartberg mountains near the entrance to Meiringspoort, the gateway between the Great Karoo and Little Karoo. Set adjacent to the Swartberg Cape Floral Kingdom -- a World Heritage Site -- Wilgemond boasts 50 hectares of natural fynbos, including Proteas. Hiking and mountain biking routes lead to the summit of the mountain. Wilgemond is a birdwatchers' paradise. For many years the Swiegers family has farmed a variety of wine cultivars, seed, ostriches, sheep, as well as harvesting wild flowers and growing cut flowers. Wilgemond is the second highest grape producing farm in South Africa. Guests stay in the original farmhouse. The old Cape Dutch homestead has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The house is furnished throughout with Cape Colonial furniture. Breakfasts and dinners are a real 'get-together', where traditional farm food is served. Spend balmy summer evenings outside in the courtyard and enjoy breakfasts in the front garden. Warm yourself in front of the fire on cold winter evenings. Plan a variety of circular day trips from Wilgemond to Prince Albert, over the Swartberg Pass, down to "The Hell", to Oudtshoorn and back through Meiringspoort.
