Are you looking for ways to support your Langstroth hive this summer? In this quick video, we share some helpful tips for managing your colony during the warmest months of the year! As a general rule, new boxes should be added when your hive is fifty to seventy percent full. When expanding your hive, you can add boxes to the top, which is called supering, or add them to the bottom, which is called nadiring. The Langstroth hive allows you to easily do either. Nadiring is a great way to cycle old comb out of your hive by moving boxes up the stack for the honey harvest. If you are adding a foundationless box, be sure to move a few drawn combs into the new space to ensure your bees draw straight comb.
