Day four of our motorbike trip to the D-Day beaches of Normandy. 

Today we went on foot to the wonderful Caen Museum and Memorial... it is 5 minutes walk from our hotel :)

The powerful and moving exhibits must be seen! I was stunned to see the Typhoon aircraft hanging from the ceiling in the main hall.. my Grandfather worked on these :) 

The exhibits study how propaganda was heavily used by all sides to influence their public, and saw how this allowed the circumstances needed for public approval and support for war to prevail... incredible. It also takes you right through the Cold War and the east/west nonsense... if it doesn't make you think then, you'll need to go back round and read everything again.

what was also unreal was seeing the same story play out from opposing perspectives. Remember the heros we met at Pegasus Bridge, Roy Cadman and Nick Archdale? Well in the Caen museum, is the very bunker and desk that the German commanding officer responsible for the counter attack on the bridge was. We saw where he planned and controlled his forces that were sent to try to repel the Allies.. Nick Archdale and his men helped squash that counter attack... incredible... just incredible...

The memorial gardens surrounding the main museum are wonderful and maintained to such a high standard. The honour and respect for the fallen and the staggeringly brave sacrifices they made is clear. and quite poetic, in a society today where we seem to take so much for granted, the community in Normandy helped me re-ground myself and put things into clear perspective. Wonderful stuff.

The celebrations of the D-Day Landings last for over a month in Normandy and the emotion, gratitude and love shown to the veterans is mind blowing. you simply have to come here to witness this for yourself...

The 2018 Kawasaki Z1000sx in full touring set up was incredible. Two up and full luggage, it performed superbly.
