Modern politicians seem to think that 'doing something' and 'looking busy' is the only way to get elected, rather than real reform. Unfortunately, this means that politicians stick their noses into too much and get government in the way of too many things. This makes things much worse and in the end, politicians are then held responsible for when things go wrong - bringing on even more government interference. Say what you want about bank executives and fat cats being paid huge salaries, but having the Government decree how much executives get paid and dictate how electricity companies interact with their customers is massive overreach. have a say in how much they get paid is huge overreach.
