You’re The Top, Fokstrot z f-mu “Anything Goes” (muz. i sł. Cole Porter) – Orkiestra B.B.C. pod dyr. Henry Halla, z refrenem śpiewanym, Columbia 1936 (Polish product; recorded in London) NOTE: This famous Cole Porter’s song was featured in the 1936 film comedy “Anything Goes” based on the play released in Broadway two years earlier. The film is about a young man (Bing Crosby) who falls in love with a beautiful woman (Ethel Merman) whom he follows onto a luxury liner, where he discovers she is an English heiress who ran away from home and is now being returned to England. The song “ is based on a humorous dialogue between a man and a woman who take turns complimenting each other. It was the most popular song from Anything Goes at the start, with hundreds of parodies that followed. The lyrics are particularly notable because they offer a snapshot as to what was highly prized in the mid-1930s and demonstrate Porter's rhyming ability. British bandleader Henry HALL took over directorship of the BBC dance Orchestra in 1932 from Jack Payne, who was also a celebrated dance band leader in UK, during the British big band Golden Era. At 5.15pm each weekday, Hall's radio program from Broadcasting House gathered a huge following across the nation. His signature tune was "It's Just the Time for Dancing", and he usually concluded with "Here's to the Next Time". Hall's band was the first to appear on television in UK. In 1937 Henry Hall left the BBC to tour with his own band, which comprised many members of his BBC band. He toured the concert- and the dance halls of Britain and Europe, and generated embarrassing controversy by anticipating demands of the Third Reich censors and dropping songs by Jewish composers while playing in Berlin in February 1938
