The Real Underlying Problem w' the Russian (& USA) Economy.
Russia is well noted for having an abundance of engineers, mathematicians and physicists, yet Russia is lagging on the world stage in economic might.  Russian being so commodity rich with oil, nickel, palladium, lumber and other sources of raw material combined with all it's unmatched expertise should be the number 1 powerhouse in the world economically.  Yet it is not.  The real answer why it has not achieved this goal is due to the government and the connected kingpins in industry that reap almost all the wealth of Russia for themselves.  Vladimir Putin is one of these main kingpins and his portrayal of himself as an emancipator and a reformer is all just a guise.  Russians are probably more acutely aware of this than Westerners, as it seems many Westerns totally buy into the propaganda of the Russian State run channel "Russia Today", which glorifies Putin as often as possible. 
  The USA is experiencing a movement to the same type of situation, whereby more and more wealth is being transferred to the few at the top and free enterprise is being stifled by the heavy hand of government policies, especially through taxation and Obamacare.
   The Russian elite & Vladimir Putin keep their grip on Russian wealth as also equivalent counterparts in the USA also do so.  Many atrocious things have been alleged that were done at the hand of the Clinton camp and Bush camp (both sides of the political aisle).   It can be very strongly argued that the Communist system that was i Russia was installed by the Western elite, who are the same type of power-hungry elite that are ruining America.   Vladimir Putin may not be exactly on the side of the Western elite, but his is undoubtedly an elitist himself that grabs power ad wealth and holds power and wealth at the expense of the general Russian population, while he plays an act that he is a reformer.
