Calorie Partitioning | Why Am I Getting Fat | Dr. Justin Marchegiani Schedule a FREE Consult: http://www.justinhealth.com/free-consultation In this video, Dr. Justin Marchegiani talks about the concept of Calorie Partitioning and how it affects your weight. Many times, people would be asking "Why am I getting fat? Why is the food I am eating going into my fat cells instead of going in to build my muscles?" This is an important concept of calorie partitioning. Essentially, how does our body divide it and say some calories will go into the muscles and some calories will go into the fat. This is a great concept and I have some excellent illustration to show what's driving this. In the end, it all comes down to hormones. First thing first, what is a hormone? Hormone essentially is a chemical messenger, we have thyroid hormone, we have glucagon, we have insulin, testosterone, all of these hormones flow throughout the body and they bind into recepticides. Think of hormone as a baseball, and the recepticides is the catcher's mitt. The hormone essentially does not really have a response until it binds to a receptor. So baseball, and catcher's mitt, receptor hormone then we have what's called response. This creates a reaction on the body in certain hormones like estrogen. In the receptor, we have a different response than maybe when testosterone. That is important to know. Everything that I recommend helps change body composition and help increase your metabolism and increasing you metabolisms means to help burn more energy and fat sources for fuel. Everything we're recommending on the diet, lifestyle and exercise side are all round putting your hormones in the best possible scenario so you burn more fat fuel. One of the things that we see essentially is when patients eat certain foods that are more inflammatory or refined sugars, we are dumping more of our calories, they are going essentially into the fat cells and the fat cells storing those calories up, so I f the fat cells are storing these calories and the fat is getting bigger, our mitochondria don't really have the access to burn this fuels for energy. One of the most common things we see is we are storing fat and we become very fatigue and tired, we don't feel too well and we definitely don't want to exercise because we rather be on the couch and watch movie and do nothing at all because when you are tired, it takes more energy to go out and work out. When we are eating certain foods like that, we are making more insulin, we making more cortisol, we are making more excessive amounts of leptin and over time, we see the cells become numb to these hormones. The fancy word is known as receptor down regulation or receptor resistance. Maybe you've heard insulin resistance or leptin resistance but essentially all that needs is the cells becomes numb to the hormone. It will saturate to the fat cells and not to our calories to get burned up. On the other side of things, the calories going around in our blood stream, when they meet specific hormones like glucagon, lipo-protein lipase, and hormone-sensitive lipase where able to drive more of our hormones into our mitochondria drive more of our calories into our mitochondria by that hormone response. Our mitochondria can endure most calories for energy and we feel good. Essentially, our metabolism is wrapped up, we have more energy, therefore they are more likely to exercise. A lot of times in exercise, exercise is a bio-product of doing the right things in your diet and lifestyle hormonally to give yourself energy. It takes a lot of will power to exercise. It creates the right environment and what we eat in our lifestyle is we are going to have more energy, more of our fuel and calories are going to go into our mitochondria to get burned up and essentially, our metabolism will be healthier, we are going to burn more fat for fuel and we are going to be able to put more muscle in our body and get more toned.
