Iran on Monday launched a rocket containing a live monkey into space and later retrieved the shipment unscathed, the state news agency IRNA reported, touting it as an advance its missile and space programme. The monkey was launched into space on a Kavoshgar rocket, reaching an altitude of more than 120 kilometres before returning to Earth. According to Reuters, Iran announced in 2011 that it planned to send a monkey into space, but that attempt was reported to have failed.
