Simply Open Gmail and Click on the cog wheel button below your profile picture. Now Click on Settings from the given Options. Settings Page will Open and there you will see the Labs Tab, Simply Click on it. Here, Look for the Preview Pane feature and Select Enable. which is by default Disable. Now, Click on Save Changes and confirm the changes made. 

Now, Go back to inbox. You don't see much change right? But there is a little change. Now you can see a new dropdown box, next to the left and right arrow buttons. We have enabled the Preview Pane feature and now it needs to be turned on. Cool, To do that Simply Click on the Drop Down box and Select Vertical Split. Now will see a interface which is almost similar to that of Microsoft Outlook and Mail App. 

You can also choose to have Horizontal Split View, like to that of Thunderbird.
